Authorized by Virginia voters in a 1987 referendum, the Virginia Lottery generates more than $1.6 million per day for Virginia’s K-12 public schools. In Fiscal Year 2020, the Lottery generated more than $595 million for K-12 education in the Commonwealth, with sales of more than $2.1 billion. Virginia Lottery proceeds support programs such as school breakfast, early reading intervention and career and technical education.
