WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary swimming senior Tara Tiernan was named the Tribe Leader of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Wednesday. The Tribe Leader of the Week recognizes exceptional William & Mary student-athletes for their contributions as leaders in the classroom and the community. Tiernan was selected by her peers on the W&M Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Tiernan is a member of the Tribe Swimming Leadership Committee, serving as a liaison between the coaches and the student-athletes and representing the voices of her teammates. She also managed all team social media accounts, providing current and engaging information for all followers of Tribe Swimming.

In the pool, Tiernan is a four-time CAA Champion as a member of the league-winning 800 freestyle relay. She was a fixture in the Tribe's championship lineup, placing in the top 12 in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 200 backstroke at the CAA Championship each of the last four years. Tiernan was the conference runner-up in the 200 backstroke in 2019.

Academically, Tiernan will earn her degree in marketing with a concentration in business analytics and a minor in public health in May. She has been named a W&M Provost Award winner, to the Dean's List and to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll during each of her years on campus.

Tiernan currently serves as a marketing intern for the Mason School of Business, collaborating with the marketing planning managers to develop and design marketing strategies. She is also the director of digital marketing for the student-run Agency 1693 and leads the internal social media and website development teams. In the summer of 2020, Tiernan worked as a digital marketing analyst intern for Red Ventures in Charlotte, N.C.
