William & Mary Athletics

How to Give

Recurring Gifts

A recurring gift is a simple and efficient way to ensure your ongoing support for W&M Athletics. By setting up a recurring monthly, quarterly or annual gift, you will know that you are supporting what matters to you most.

Recurring gifts are:
  • Easy - Simply select your giving amount and frequency to any designation
  • Convenient - Set automatic credit or debit card payments and receive a year-end tax receipt
  • Sustainable - Recurring gifts are predominately paperless
  • Rewarding - Enjoy automatic membership in the Bell Society after a fiscal year of giving
Your recurring gift helps W&M Athletics budget for current projects and new opportunities by providing consistent and reliable funding for our most pressing needs.

Gifts of Real Estate

A gift of real estate may be an effective way to support William & Mary while accomplishing other important goals you may have. Suitable properties may include your residence or vacation home, farm, commercial property, agricultural land and unimproved or undeveloped lots.

Gifts of real estate require special planning and must be reviewed by the William & Mary Real Estate Foundation before acceptance. If the real estate is to be used to fund a William & Mary-managed trust, it must be reviewed by our corporate trustee before acceptance.

Securities

Gifts of securities, such as stocks and mutual funds, can be a strategically effective way to support William & Mary Athletics. Certain restrictions apply around donor-advised funds. If you are interested in making a gift through a donor-advised fund, please contact gift accounting at gifts@wm.edu or 757-221-1001.

Electronic Transfer is the most efficient way to transfer securities to William & Mary or one of our foundations. If your stock is held at a broker, notify the broker that you wish to make a gift of securities to W&M. Your broker will need written authorization from you before they can make the transfer. Be sure to tell your broker the name of the stock that you want to transfer, the number of shares, and where you would like your gift to be designated.

For additional information on the designation of security transfers, visit the W&M giving website.

Gifts in Kind

Athletic costs can be significantly reduced by the donation of products or services, for which you will receive donor credit at cash value. Gifts-in-kind must be appropriately appraised through the donor's efforts.

Endowments

An endowment gift is one of the powerful ways a donor can make a lasting impact on William & Mary Athletics. Endowed funds provide an ongoing source of support for W&M Athletics. Gifts can be made to establish endowed scholarship funds or sport-specific operational funds to assist with annual budgetary needs.

Donors may use either outright or deferred gifts to establish named endowed funds. W&M Athletics works with each donor to prepare guidelines for each named endowed fund's administration. Guideline length and degree of specificity depend on the donor's wishes and circumstances.

Planned Giving

Bequests

By including W&M Athletics as a beneficiary in your will or revocable trust, you may direct that the university uses your bequest in a manner that you choose at any time. Proper planning can help you and your family realize your gifts' most significant benefits to William & Mary. This involves selecting the best combination of assets and vehicles to accomplish your charitable, financial and estate planning objectives.

Life Income Gifts
