WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's gymnastics senior
Katie Waldman was named the Tribe Leader of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday. The Tribe Leader of the Week recognizes exceptional William & Mary student-athletes for their contributions as leaders in the classroom and the community.
Waldman is a six-time All-ECAC performer and was the league's champion in the all-around and on the uneven bars in 2018. She earned all-league honors on the vault, bars and all-around in both 2018 and 2020. Last season, she broke the program record on the uneven bar.
Academically, Waldman is majoring in kinesiology and health sciences with a minor in chemistry. She is a three-time Provost Award winner and a two-time Dean's list selection. In 2019 and 2020, she was named to the ECAC All-Academic Team.
On campus, Waldman is the co-founder and vice president of the Volunteers Around the World, which is a medical outreach program that provides basic health clinics and education to communities around the world.
In the summer of 2019, Waldman traveled to South Africa to intern with the Great Commissions United, a nonprofit organization that provides meals and childcare to youth in poverty with the goal to decrease gang violence.
She has also helped in the women's gymnastics program putting on a suicide prevention event that aimed to educate the community on the importance of self-care. The event provided students with relaxation techniques and an introduction to the campus wellness center.
