WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary volleyball sophomore Sydney Taylor was named the Tribe Leader of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday. The Tribe Leader of the Week recognizes exceptional William & Mary student-athletes for their contributions as leaders in the classroom and the community.

Despite missing her rookie season due to injury, Taylor established herself as one of the Tribe's leaders. Prior to coming to Williamsburg, she was a high school All-American and the player of the year in the state of New Jersey.

Academically, the Montclair, N.J., native intends to major in marketing and excelled in the classroom during her freshman year, earning a spot on the CAA's Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll each semester.

Taylor is a volleyball representative on William & Mary's Student Athlete Advisory Committee and is a member of the Diversity and Inclusion group. In 2019, she was the recipient of the Herbert C. Oberle Memorial Award, recognizing integrity, character and leadership in athletics.

William & Mary Athletics and The Virginia Lottery are committed to promoting the excellence of our student-athletes on the field, in the classroom and in the community. At William & Mary, we cultivate creative thinkers, principled leaders, and compassionate global citizens equipped for lives of meaning and distinction.
