WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary football junior
Zyquan Bessant was named the Tribe Leader of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday. The Tribe Leader of the Week recognizes exceptional William & Mary student-athletes for their contributions as leaders in the classroom and the community. Bessant was selected by his peers on the W&M Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Bessant was selected as the youngest member of the football program's leadership council by his teammates. He has started all three games along the defensive line for the Tribe this season. Bessant has appeared in 24 games over his three seasons and has 26 career tackles with a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Academically, Bessant is an accounting major and plans to work toward his master's degree as well following his graduation in 2022. He has been named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll during each of his years on campus.
In the community, Bessant is an outreach officer for the Gibbs Accounting Society. He helps lead outreach efforts towards professionals, professors, and students who wish to attend or host any events for their company or organization. He also worked as a sports club supervisor at the William & Mary Recreational Center from 2019-21.
