The role of the William & Mary Athletics Media Relations -
 
• Publicize and promote W&M Athletics, our 23 varsity programs, and our student-athletes through social media, TribeAthletics.com and gained media coverage.
 
• Create a historical archive of W&M Athletics through the use of press releases, box scores, game recaps, etc. on TribeAthletics.com.
 
• Keep accurate statistical records and relay them through TribeAthletics.com, the CAA and the NCAA.
 
• Assist the media in promoting W&M Athletics, our programs and our student-athletes
 
• Enhance the student-athlete experience through social media, photos, video, etc.
 
• Maintain a photo and video archive of W&M Athletics and our student-athletes.
 
• Assist the external team – marketing, creative content, tickets, Van Wagner – to benefit W&M Athletics.

Credential Policy
Media credentials for traditional media (newspaper, dedicated websites, TV, radio, etc.) as well as non-traditional media (bloggers, content creators, photographers and videographers, podcast, etc.) are available upon request on a game-by-game basis for all Tribe home sporting events.
 
Requests must be made to the primary media relations contact or by using the Credential Request Form on TribeAthletics.com at least 24 hours in advance of all events with the exception of football, which must be made 72 hours in advance. Credentials are not guaranteed by request and are limited based on space and coverage.
 
For non-traditional media outlets to qualify for a credential, certain benchmarks must be reached.
 
• The outlet must show an established following.
• The outlet must share and create consistent content to its channel, whether it is a website, podcast, or social media.
• The outlet must show dedicated and focused content on collegiate athletics, most notably the sport in which the credential is being requested.
• It is encouraged that the outlet has past coverage on William & Mary Athletics.

Interview Policy
Interview requests for any non-coaching W&M Athletics employee should be filed with the Associate Athletics Director for Media Relations & Strategic Communications Pete Clawson (pmclaw@wm.edu) in a timely fashion with at least 24 hours' notice.
 
Interview requests for coaches and student-athletes should be made through the media relations contact for each sport with at least 24 hours' notice.
 
Individuals requesting an interview should work through the media relations department and NOT to contact student-athletes, coaches or staff without prior approval. W&M coaches and media relations reserve the right to deny an interview request.
 
Practices
Practices are generally closed to the media and the general public. Media members are required to contact Tribe Athletics Media Relations for clearance as well as for current practice times and locations.

Postgame Interviews
Locker rooms for all W&M programs are closed to the media both pre and postgame. Postgame interviews will be handled in the designated media room or on the field for select sports. To organize postgame interview, please work with the media relations contact in the press box or on press row.
