WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's track and field junior Michael Fairbanks was named the Tribe Leader of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday. The Tribe Leader of the Week recognizes exceptional William & Mary student-athletes for their contributions as leaders in the classroom and the community.

Fairbanks won back-to-back Colonial Athletic Association pole vault championships in 2018 and 2019. Last season, he won the 2020 IC4A indoor title before the spring season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fairbanks, who was an NCAA qualifier in 2019, was named to the inaugural Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State Track team in 2020 as a member of the second team in jumps.

Academically, he is majoring in finance. Fairbanks owns a long list of academic accomplishments, including two W&M Provost Awards, two USTFCCCA All-Academic Team selections, a spot on the CAA Commissioner's Academic honor roll each of the last two years and the Dean's List.

In 2020, Fairbanks served as an equity research summer analyst for JP Morgan in New York. Currently, he works a teaching assistant in applied financial concepts at William & Mary.

On campus, Fairbanks is also a student ambassador for One for the World, helping to spread the message of effective altruism and encouraging fellow students to give to charities fighting extreme poverty.
