WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's golf sophomore
Jimmy Taylor was named the Tribe Leader of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday. The Tribe Leader of the Week recognizes exceptional William & Mary student-athletes for their contributions as leaders in the classroom and the community.
With less than two seasons completed, Taylor has already established himself as a player to watch in the Colonial Athletic Association. As a freshman in 2019-20, he posted the second-best season average ever for a Tribe rookie, at 73.89 strokes per round. That was also one of the top-20 seasons ever at W&M, for any class. In 2021, he's improved that even more, down to 73.67 strokes per round, and at the season-opening Ross Collegiate Classic, Taylor recorded his first top-10 finish, taking ninth overall in a tournament of more than 80 players.
Taylor has also established himself as a leader off the course as well. A finance major at W&M, he is also minoring in Computer Science, and earned the Provost's Award both in 2019-20 and 2020-21 for having a GPA over 3.5. Taylor was also named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award list in every semester so far in his career.
In the community, Taylor has volunteered at his local homeless shelter back in his hometown of Alexandria, Va.
