WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men’s swimming junior Graham Hertweck was named the Tribe Leader of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday. The Tribe Leader of the Week recognizes exceptional William & Mary student-athletes for their contributions as leaders in the classroom and the community. Hertweck was selected by his peers on the W&M Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Swimming’s Graham Hertweck Named Tribe Leader of the Week

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's swimming junior Graham Hertweck was named the Tribe Leader of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday. The Tribe Leader of the Week recognizes exceptional William & Mary student-athletes for their contributions as leaders in the classroom and the community. Hertweck was selected by his peers on the W&M Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
 
In the pool, Hertweck has been a standout in both the freestyle and butterfly events. Last season, he was a member of both the school and conference record setting 200 and 800 freestyle relays. In 2021, Hertweck placed second at the CAA Championship in the 100 freestyle, third in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 butterfly.
 
Academically, Hertweck is majoring in neuroscience with a minor in kinesiology and health sciences. He has been named to the Dean's list and to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll during each of his semesters on campus. Hertweck was named a W&M Provost Award winner each of the last three years.
 
On campus, Hertweck has worked in psychology research, gaining experience with Professor Robert Barnet in his research on the anxiogenic effects of nicotine in rats. Prior to his time at W&M, he received the Eagle Scout Award from Boy Scouts of America for helping to build an outdoor picnic area for Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.
