WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's basketball senior
Nyla Pollard was named the Tribe Leader of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday. The Tribe Leader of the Week recognizes exceptional William & Mary student-athletes for their contributions as leaders in the classroom and the community.
On the court, Pollard is a four-year starter for the Tribe and ranks among the program's all-time leaders in assists. This season, she ranks second on the team in scoring (8.2 points per game) and assists (32).
In the classroom, Pollard is a sociology & elementary education major and is a three-time CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll selection. Each of the last two years, she has been a student-teacher for Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools. Over the summer, Pollard was a Human Resources Intern for the National Football League.
On campus, Pollard has been part of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and served as a Student-Assistant to the SAAC Advisor. Pollard is also on the junior board of directors for the Make A Play Foundation. She led and assisted underrepresented student-athletes during a 12-month professional development program
In the community, Pollard has been a Student Mentor & Non-Profit Intern for Classroom Champions and is the co-founder and president of Family Reunion. With Classroom Champions, she helps teach lessons about goal setting, leadership, and community involvement to elementary school students to enhance their academic and social achievements. As part of Family Reunion, she planned events, activities, service opportunities, and meetings to bridge the gaps between diverse communities.
