The William & Mary Athletics Department had a league-best 343 student-athletes named to the Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday, recognizing achievement in the spring semester. All 19 teams that compete in the CAA (including football) had numerous athletes honored after achieving a GPA over 3.0 in the spring 2020 semester. When combined with the award-winners from the fall semester, the Tribe had a program-record 648 athletes honorees in at least one semester this past school year.
The CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll is just the latest in a long line of academic awards earned by William & Mary this year, despite the disruptions to the academic calendar this spring. Senior
Brandon Raquet of the Tribe baseball team was named a second-team Academic All-American by CoSIDA in May, and was W&M's male CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year Finalist alongside field hockey senior
Cassidy Goodwin. Two athletes were named Phi Beta Kappa this year, 2019 graduate
David Allen of the men's gymnastics team as well as senior
Susanna Maisto of the women's track & field team, while another pair,
Victoria Gersch of women's track & field and Ph.D. candidate
Ben Skopic of men's swimming, won the CAA Leadership & Sport Excellence awards.
Among the W&M teams, a state and league-best eight teams were honored with NCAA Public Recognition Awards in May, given for having an APR score in the top-10% of their sport nationally. Overall, W&M's department-wide APR of 993.95 was the highest nationally among public universities and eight teams earned a perfect APR of 1000, third-most among Division I public universities. The Tribe once again led the nation's public universities in the Federal Graduation Rate for the 15th year in a row, and also ranked second among that group in the Graduation Success Rate at 95%, its highest rate since 2009-10.
