Women's Swimming Wins CAA Championship

HAMPTON, Va. — Setting the all-time CAA record for team points, the William & Mary women's swimming team dominated en route to winning the CAA Championship on Saturday evening at the Hampton Aquaplex.

The Tribe earned a combined 12 medals for the day, bringing their total medal count to 32. Seven of those were gold medals. W&M broke a pair of school records on day four of the championship, highlighted by an all-time CAA record in the women's 400 freestyle relay between Flynn Truskett, Ellie Hunt, Haley Lehman, and Caroline Burgeson.

The women's team accumulated 1,647 points, smashing the previous highwater mark of 1,409. Tribe head coach Nate Kellogg was named the CAA Women's Swimming Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

DAY FOUR
The finals began with a third-place finish from Claire Stuhlmacher in the women's 1650 freestyle (16:45.71). It was the sixth-best performance in school history.

Julie Addison won gold in the women's 200 backstroke, finishing in 1:56.35 which was good for No. 2 all-time. She became the first Tribe women's swimmer to win the event since 2016.

In the women's 100 freestyle, Burgeson led the Tribe with a time of 49.38, placing second. Truskett finished right behind her teammate, clocking in at 49.36 for a bronze medal. On the men's side of the 100 free, Aiden Bond took silver with his time of 43.29.

Sophia Heilen was the individual champion in the women's 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.97. Juhlin came in third place with a time of 2:14.95. The men's 200 breaststroke was highlighted by a school-record performance from Toby Herzog, who clocked in at 1:55.91. Herzog had previously broken the record in the prelims earlier that morning with a time of 1:56.67.

Thomas Duncan also added a school record in the prelims of the men's 200 backstroke, finishing in 1:43.14.

Sammy Randell medaled in the women's 200 butterfly, posting the No. 7 all-time performance with a time of 2:01.22 for a silver medal. Lauren Klinefelter came in a dead tie for third place, reaching the finish line in 2:01.35.

The final event of the night was the 400 freestyle relay. The Tribe women posted the best performance in school and CAA history at 3:17.39, besting the previous mark set at the 2023 CAA Championships by over two full seconds.

The men's 400 free relay team placed third, posting a time of 2:56.45. That stands as fourth-fastest all-time.
