As a freshman, Estes helped lead W&M to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship in 1990, the final year before the conference switched to a dual-meet bracket tournament.  He won a freshman-record 24 singles matches that year, and both his singles (24-6, .800) and doubles (19-5, .792) winning percentages are still the Tribe's freshman records as well.  Estes proved himself to be a consistent winner over the ensuing years, graduating with a .703 winning percentage in singles (90-38) that is the Tribe's career record.  He also ranks second for his career winning percentage in doubles, at .688 (64-29).

After graduation, Estes continued playing tennis at a high level, winning multiple Gold Ball awards at U.S. Tennis Association National Tournaments.  In 1992, he won Father/Son national titles both indoors and on a grass court, and in 2007, he won the APTA National Championship in Platform Tennis.  Estes was in fact ranked No. 1 in the world in platform tennis for most of three straight years.  In 2016 and 2017, he won the doubles national titles in the APTA 45 age group.  Estes recently retired after a very successful business career, including over 10 years as the Chief Financial Officer at Welltower, Inc.
