Anna Agbe-Davies was a key member of some of William & Mary's best-ever volleyball teams, setting marks that are still untouchable more than 30 years later. During her four years, the Tribe went 92-37 (.713) and 18-1 (.947) in the Colonial Athletic Association, winning three CAA Championships and going to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship in 1989, 1990, and 1991.
Â
Agbe-Davies played in the middle of the net and did so spectacularly, totaling 547 blocks over her career. She scored 169 of those as a sophomore, breaking the existing school record by 36, and then improved that to 173 in 1991 and 182 as a senior in 1992. In the more than 35 years since, only twice has any player reached even 130 in a year. To put Agbe-Davies' numbers in perspective, her 151 block-assists in 1992 would rank fourth in school history among total blocks, behind only her own three seasons. Her role in the offense also grew over the years until she scored a career-best 245 kills (2.25 per set) and 22 aces as a senior in 1992. Agbe-Davies still holds the school record in every block category: solo (134, 26 more than second place), block-assists (413, 14 more), total blocks (547, 65 more), and blocks per set (1.55, 0.28 more).
Â
Agbe-Davies was also a standout in the classroom, earning second-team Academic All-American honors in 1991-92, and an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship in 1993. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated from W&M summa cum laude in 1993. Agbe-Davies was named second-team All-CAA each of her last three years, and in 2009-10, was named to the CAA 25th Anniversary volleyball team.
