VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Three cheers for the Tribe!
Running in the distance medley relay, the final event during Wednesday's opening day of the inaugural Colonail Athletic Association indoor track & field championship, the squad of
Andrew Lagattuta,
Gabriel Albers,
Luke Henkel, and
Brendan DiStefano secured a place on the podium, finishing third with a time of 10:13.78.
And they weren't the only ones posting impressive finishes at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. A trio of Green and Gold athletes also notched fifth-place finishes in their respective events.
Freshman
Jason Nwosu got things started, placing fifth in the weight throw at 16.58m (54-04.75). The mark was a PR and moved Nwosu into 15
th place on the Tribe's all-time performers list in the event.
Harrison Duncan added his own 5
th-place showing in the long jump at 6.82m (22-04.50), while
Ethan Buenviaje was 14
th in the event at 6.28m (20-07.25).
And rounding out the day for the Green and Gold was
J.P. Mintz, who notched a five spot in the pole vault at 4.35m (14-03.25).
Following the jam-packed schedule, which also saw W&M post a handful of PRs and all-time program performances, the Tribe sits tied for fifth in the team standings with 19 points. Monmouth leads the way with 51, while Northeastern (40), and Stony Brook (30) are second and third.
5,000m
Nate Jennings led a solid Tribe squad in the final, finishing eighth with a time of 14:47.05.
Luke Ellwood also notched a top-10 finish with a time of 14:50.71, while
Peyton Golden wasn't far behind in 11
th at 15:00.55.
Patrick North finished 12
th in 15:01.52.

Jackson Cooley sent a brand-new PR in the prelims, crossing the finish line in 6.88 and qualifying for Thursday's final.
800m
Jonathan Kumer punched his ticket to Thursday's final with a finish of 1:52.76, a PR that improves his time as the Tribe's 14
th-best performer in the event.
Stephen Larson also qualified for the final, finishing in 1:53.86.

Matthias Oettl, and
Joshua Shackelford finished 14
th, 15
th, and 17
th.
Mile
The Tribe will have a strong lineup for Thursday's final.
Sam Pritchard,
Evan Goodell,
T.J. Corliss, and
Jacob Jones all qualified.

Freshman
Austin Rice added another history-making performance to his collection this season, running a 48.95 in the prelims—the seventh-fastest in Tribe history.
60m Hurdles
Gabriel Albers placed 11
th in the prelims.
Heptathlon
After the first day of competition,
Cole Harris is third (2,544) and
Daniel Layton is in fourth (2,512).
