NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The kids are alright! Freshman duo
Jason Nwosu and
Ross Bazzichi had the best afternoon of their young William & Mary careers, posting solid performances and setting new PRs at the Vince Brown Invitational on Sunday.
Nwosu captured the top spot in the weight throw with a PR of 16.82 (55-02.25) and a first-place finish in the shot put at 15.68m (51-05
.50). Meanwhile, Bazzichi was second in the weight throw with his own PR at 16.34m (53-07.50) and fifth in the shot put at 14.32m (46-11.75).
It wasn't just Nwosu and Bazzichi showing their strength, either. In the mile, it was all Green and Gold. The Tribe swept the top seven spots, with
Brendan DiStefano crossing the finish line first in a time of 4:20.48.
Luke Henkel (4:20.66) and
Harrison Vives (4:20.90) rounded out the top three, while
Owen Lipps (4:25.25),
Braedan Gallagher (4:25.49),
Peyton Golden (4:26.93), and
Joseph Taylor (4:28.46) went four through seven.
Joshua Shackelford rounded out the Tribe's performance in 11th place.
DiStefano, Henkel, Vives, and Gallagher each recorded PRs in the race.
Field Events
Pole Vault
J.P. Mintz and
Cole Harris were second and fourth in the event at 3.78m (12-08.25) and 3.57m (11-08.50), respectively.
Long Jump
Ethan Buenviaje placed 10
th in the event at 5.91m (19-04.75).
Running Events
60m Hurdles
Gabriel Albers was fifth in the final and posted a PR of 8.98 in the prelims.
200m
Adding to his Sunday schedule,
Gabriel Albers captured a 10
th-place finish.
800m
Luke Henkel led a strong Tribe showing in the event, placing first.
Brendan DiStefano and
Harrison Vives finished within steps of each other at third and fourth, while
Matthias Oettl crossed the finish line in fifth.
Braedan Gallagher,
Joshua Shackelford, and
Joseph Taylor placed seventh, eighth, and ninth for the Green and Gold.
