WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary Athletics continued to shine in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year.
 
As a department, W&M student-athletes achieved a GPA of 3.43 during the spring semester. More impressively, for the first time, all 21 programs produced a semester GPA above 3.0. A total of 14 programs enjoyed a spring GPA of 3.5 or higher led by women's gymnastics' 3.75. On the men's side, golf had the highest spring semester GPA at 3.63. Teams also achieving a 3.5 during the spring semester included men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's gymnastics, lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis and women's track and field.
 
W&M Athletics cumulative GPA at the end of the 2022-23 academic year was 3.38. Women's gymnastics had the highest cumulative GPA at 3.76, while men's swimming at the top male cumulative GPA at 3.58.
 
The Tribe also enjoyed another record-setting year with 225 student-athletes receiving the W&M Provost Award. The Provost Award program began in 2003-04, and recognizes athletes who maintain over a 3.5 GPA. A total of 11 teams had at least 10 athletes honored, led by 22 from baseball. On the women's side, soccer and lacrosse led the way with 18 honorees each. W&M also achieved elite marks in the NCAA annuals ratings – graduation rates and the APR. During the fall, the Tribe led all Division I public institutions in Federal Graduation Rate for the 17th time in the last 18 years. W&M's 88% FGR was well ahead of the national average for all student-athletes (69%). It ranked 10th overall among all Division I schools and was the highest in the state of Virginia. W&M had 11 teams report a 100% GSR (men's basketball, men's cross country and track & field, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, lacrosse, women's swimming, men's and women's tennis and women's golf). In total, 18 of the Tribe's 19 programs (cross country and track and field are combined) had GSRs of 90 or higher.
 
The Tribe produced an APR of 996 among its 21 programs (indoor and outdoor track and field are combined) for 2021-22, while its multi-year APR was 994, ahead of the national average of 984. In total, 18 Tribe programs achieved perfect APRs in 2021-22 (men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, lacrosse, women's soccer, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field and volleyball) and 12 produced perfect multi-year APRs, which was the most among Division I public schools.
