WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Catch 'em if you can.
Running in the Dan Stimson Memorial, the Tribe's home opener at Zable Stadium on Saturday, William & Mary sprinters stole the spotlight with strong showings in both the 100m and 200m. W&M swept the top seven spots in the 200m and the top five in the 100m.
Amaya Johnson led the charge in both races, crossing the 100m finish line in 11.87 and the 200m in 23.79.
Rounding out the top finishers in the 100m were
Melissa Cunningham,
Anna Kessler,
Lizzy Gregory, and
Carly Swierbut.
Charlotte Robinson finished seventh. Then, in the 200m, it was Gregory, Cunningham, Swierbut, Kessler,
Grace Bir, and Robinson.
Megan Heidebrecht,
Lydia Wallis,
Elizabeth Dupras, and
Dana Abraham also ran in the event.
Meanwhile on the field side,
Keeley Suzenski recorded a trio of first-place performances. The Pennsylvania native set the tone with strong showings in the shot put (13.66m) and discus (42.34m) and, for the second straight week, set a new PR in the hammer throw, this time at 57.18m.
400m Hurdles
Clare Howard and
Makenzie Joiner went 1-2 with times of 1:04.63 and
1:05.02, respectively.
800m
In a field packed with W&M athletes,
Kelly Ann Sutterfield ran a 2:15.73 to finish first.
Sofia Istnick (2:17.56) was second, and
Molly Coyle grabbed third with a time of 2:17.57, while
Catherine Garrison notched a fourth-place showing.
Megan Dougherty,
Hannah Holland,
Anna Cestari,
Jenny Gerson, and
Kaycee Cox-Philyaw also ran in the event.
1,500m
Sofia Istnick led a four-runner sweep for the Tribe as William & Mary took the top four spots in the event. Istnick finished in 4
:34.53, while
Catherine Garrison,
Lucy Young, and
Annie Wicker rounded out the group.
Hope Stephens finished seventh.
3,000m
It was a Green and Gold race with five W&M athletes competing.
Jennifer Tsai led the way with a first-place run of 10:30.43.
Tessa Dobrinski,
Olivia Haller,
Annika Griggs, and
Emily Graves also ran.
4x100 Relay
The quartet of
Melissa Cunningham,
Amaya Johnson,
Anna Kessler, and
Charlotte Robinson ran a 47.24.
4x400 Relay
Grace Bir,
Lizzy Gregory,
Amaya Johnson, and
Carly Swierbut finished first in 3:49.87.
Kelly Ann Sutterfield,
Megan Dougherty,
Molly Coyle, and
Anna Cestari were second.
Long Jump
Dana Abraham sparked a trio of W&M'ers with a first-place performance at 5.37m.
Megan Heidebrecht was second and
Elizabeth Dupras was third.
Triple Jump
Dana Abraham finished tied for first at 11.44m.
High Jump
Liliana Klemanski was first at 1.56m.
Pole Vault
Sophie Fernandez (3.80m),
Elizabeth Upright, and
Fiona Basewitz went 1-2-3 in the event.
Shot Put
Ella Carlson was second in the event at 12.72m.
Hammer Throw
With Suzenski taking first, the freshman duo of
Ella Carlson and
Talia Anderson made it a Tribe sweep up top, posting performances of 43.58m and 39.77m.
Discus
Ella Carlson captured her third second-place performance of the day at 42.05m.
UP NEXT
The Tribe stays in the 'Burg next week for the Colonial Relays. Competition gets underway on Thursday, March 30 and runs through Saturday, April 1.
