VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Save (one of) the best(s) for last.
In the distance medley relay, the final women's event of a jam-packed schedule during Wednesday's inaugural Colonial Athletic Association indoor track & field championship, the quartet of
Molly Coyle,
Sofia Istnick,
Makenzie Joiner, and
Arianna DeBoer grabbed a spot on the podium, placing second with a time of 11:42.72. It was the sixth-fastest finish in William & Mary program history.
Also landing on the podium earlier in the day was
Olesya Sitkowski. The junior captured bronze in the pole vault, finishing at 3.70m (12-01.50).
The two performances highlighted an excellent showing for the Tribe at the Virginia Beach Sports Center as the Green and Gold wrapped up the day sitting sixth in the team standings with 16 points. Northeastern leads with 57 points, with Elon (38.5) in second and Delaware (28) in third.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Tribe meet this season without a few more records.
Keeley Suzenski led an impressive contingent in the weight throw, finishing in 11
th and posting a PR of 16.84m (55-03.00)—improving upon her previous mark as the third-best performer in W&M history. Freshman
Talia Anderson also posted a PR of her own to finish 19
th at 15.19m (49-10.00).
Ella Carlson was 22
nd at 14.68m (48-02.00), moving her into No. 14 on the program's all-time performers list.
And on the running side of the day,
Emily Ervin ran the second-fastest 400m in William & Mary lore, crossing the finish line in 55.28. It's the second time the Kansas native has set a new PR in the event this month.
That wasn't all for Ervin, either. The sophomore also qualified for the 200m final after running a 24.64 in the prelims. It was the fifth-fastest time in William & Mary history.
5,000m
Catherine Garrison crossed the finish line in 10
th with a time of 17:17.41.
Pole Vault
In addition to Sitkowski's strong showing, her fellow Tribe teammates posted solid performances in the pole vault.
Elizabeth Upright placed seventh in the event at 3.60m (11-09.75), while
Sophie Fernandez was 11
th at 3.50m (11-05.75).
Long Jump
Dana Abraham placed 17
th at 5.09m (16-08.50) and
Megan Heidebrecht was 28
th.
Pentathlon
Elizabeth Dupras finished in 13
th with 2,890 points.
Mile
A trio of Tribe student-athletes qualified for Thursday's final—
Kelly Ann Sutterfield,
Annie Wicker, and
Jennifer Tsai.
Emily Sell and
Lucy Young finished 16
th and 18
th, respectively.
800m
Caroline Jones ran a 2:14.12 to qualify for the Day 2 finals, moving her into the No.10 slot on the Tribe's all-time performers list.
Lydia Wallis placed 12
th.
60m Hurdles
Clare Howard posted a PR of 9.42 in the prelims and moved into a tie for No. 13 on the Tribe's all-time peformers list in the event.
60m
Melissa Cunningham ran an impressive race, finishing just shy of her school record with a 7.69.
Anna Kessler finished in 7.74 and
Amaya Johnson in 7.86.
200m
Amaya Johnson posted a strong time of her own, finishing ninth in 24.70.

Lizzy Gregory finished with a time of 56.44.
