ANNAPOLIS, Md. – William & Mary track and field picked up three individual victories and set at trio of freshman records at the season-opening Navy Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore
Jonathan Kumer and junior
Nate Jennings won the 1-mile and 3000m, respectively, on the men's side, while junior
Arianna DeBoer captured the 1-mile title for the women. Combined, the Tribe produced 18 top-3 finishes (10 women/8 men) at the Navy Invitational.
Freshmen
Jacob Robinson (200m),
Becca Harkness (1000m) and
Katriel Amoyaw (long jump) each set freshman records in their first collegiate competitions.
Men's 60m
Senior
Jackson Cooley finished third in the 60m in the time of 6.96. He was just .08 seconds off the winning mark from Navy's Jonah Johnson.
Women's 60m
Junior
Jacqueline Jones turned in the 22nd-best time in program history and was the seventh-best Green and Gold performer all-time at 7.85 in the 60m. She finished 10th in the event.
Men's 200m
Robinson set a W&M freshman record in the 200m, placing sixth in a time of 22.06. It was the sixth-best time in program history. Cooley just missed his career mark, finishing ninth in a time of 22.16, just .06 shy of his career-best. It was the ninth-best time in school history.
Women's 200m
Junior
Emily Ervin earned a third-place performance in the 200m. She crossed the line in 24.81, which is tied for the eighth-best time in school history.
Women's 400m
Senior
Grace Bir turned in a career-best time of 57.67 in the 400m to finish fourth. She is the 13th-best performer in school history.
Men's 1000m
Seniors
Sam Pritchard and
Jacob Jones finished second and third in the 1000m. Pritchard crossed the line in 2:29.91, just .66 ahead of Jones.
Women's 1000m
Harkness took second in the 1000m in a Tribe freshman record of 2:56.18.
Men's 1-Mile
Kumer took home the 1-mile title, crossing the line in a time of 4:15.06. Freshman
Amberson Bauer finished third in the event at 4:16.71.
Women's 1-mile
DeBoer claimed first in the 1-mile at Navy, running a time of 4:58.34.
Men's 3000m
Jennings won the 3000m title in a time of 8:21.13. Freshman
Carson Rackley earned a top-five finish at 8:36.52.
Women's 3000m
Graduate student
Heidi Fortin and junior
Annika Griggs finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 3000m. Fortin covered the distance is 10:28.82 followed by Grigg's 10:40.73.
Men's 4x400m relay
The Tribe's 4x400m relay of Robinson,
David Seekford,
Austin Rice, and Kumer took second on Saturday in a time of 3:18.66. The time was the ninth best in school history.
Women's Pole Vault
Seniors
Olesya Sitkowski and
Elizabeth Upright finished second and third in the pole vault, clearing the mark of 3.70m. For Upright, the height was a career best and she is now the 10th-best individual in school history.
Men's Long Jump
Freshman
Brian Walsh and senior
Ethan Buenviaje finished second and third in the long jump. Walsh's leap of 7.02m made him the 11th-best performer in the event in school history.
Women's Long Jump
Amoyaw and senior
Megan Heidebrecht both finished in the top three of the long jump. Amoyaw was second in a Tribe freshman record of 5.91m. It was also the second-best mark in school history overall. Heidebrecht had a career-best leap of 5.84m to finish third. The mark was the third-best in school history.
Women's Triple Jump
Heidebrecht also earned a third-place finish in the triple jumper behind a 12.08m mark. It was another career-best for Heidebrecht and the 10th-best mark in school history.
Men's Shot Put and Weight Throw
Sophomores
Jason Nwosu and
Ross Bazzichi finished fourth and fifth in the shot put and weight throw. Nwosu had a toss of 15.35m in the shot put and 16.36m in the weight throw. Bazzichi posted marks of 15.04m in the shot put and 16.10m in the weight throw.
Women's Weight Throw
Senior
Keeley Suzenski and sophomore
Talia Anderson placed in the top five behind career-best tosses in the weight throw. Suzenski equaled her career-best with a toss of 16.84m to place third. Anderson was fifth in the event with a throw of 16.12m. Suzenski ranks as the third-best individual performer in the event in school history, while Anderson is sixth.
