Kent Codding Dives into the pool for Tribe Swimming

GREENVILLE, N.C..- The Tribe started 2023 off on the winning foot as both men's and women's swim teams earned a victory over Old Dominion Saturday afternoon. The women bested the Monarchs 169-93 while the men swam away with a 147-115 decision. 
 
The Tribe men got off to a hot start taking first place in the 200 medley relay. Cole Younger, Brock Rempe, Logan McDonald, and Alex Valliere bested all other teams by over two and a half seconds with a 1:34.19. Freshman Will Glass was nearly four seconds faster than all other swimmers in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:52.03. 
 
Rhett Cosgrove swam a 1:44.23 time to finish second in the 200 freestyle and Kat Vanbourgondien swam an impressive 56.83 for second in the 100 back. Connor Sokolowsky and Kent Codding finished second and fourth respectively in the men's 100 back. 
 
Ellie Scherer and Annie Tuttle were third and fourth in the women's 100 breaststroke, while Rempe and Kyle Demers swam 58.21 and 58.43 to finish first and second in the men's 100 breaststroke. 
 
Sophia Heilen smashed the competition for a 2:04.96 first place time in the 200 butterfly before Noah Fields, Ashton Temme, and Gavin Lamoureux took the top three spots in the men's race. 
 
Katie Stevenson was a full half second faster than the field swimming to a 24.02 first place finish in the 50 free, and the senior was a second better than the rest of the competition with a 51.83 time to win the 100 free. 
 
Freshman Bryce Rouzie distanced himself from the field with a first place time of 1:53.79 in the 200 back before Demers and Rempe earned critical points with a second, third finish in the 200 breaststroke. 
 
Elizabeth Intihar, Devin Genderson, and Grace Tramack finished second, third, and fourth in the 500 freestyle on the women's end, while Glass and Cosgrove finished one, two in the men's distance race. 
 
Heilen took her second first place finish of the meet with a 56.74 time in the 100 fly before Codding and Lamoureux finished less than half a second apart for first and second place in the men's event. 
 
Younger topped off a terrific afternoon for the Tribe by pacing all men in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.75
 
William & Mary will be back in the pool next Saturday for the Tribe's final home meet of the 2022-23 season. Seniors will be honored before the Tribe splashes in for a dual meet with Davidson.
