The William & Mary women's track & field team closed out the regular season with a bang on Sunday at the CNU Qualifier, leading all eight teams at the meet in both wins (4) and second-place finishes (5) despite competing in only six events. The Tribe also picked up two more ECAC Championships qualifiers and six new entries in the record books, and re-set the freshman record in the shot put for the third time this season.
- Both of W&M's ECAC qualifiers came in the shot put, part of a 1-2-3 finish for the Tribe. Sophomore
Chelsea Wallace (Chesapeake, Va.) won the event with a big lifetime-best put of 14.02m (46-0), qualifying for the ECAC Championships for the first time. That was the 14th-best performance ever indoors for W&M, and ranks Wallace fifth among Tribe athletes. Freshman
Keeley Suzenski (Fleetwood, Pa.) broke her own freshman record in the shot put with her second-place effort of 13.86m (45-5.75), re-qualifying for the ECAC Championships. That improved her to sixth all-time at W&M. Junior
Leah Earnest (Riner, Va.) gave W&M the podium sweep, taking third with a season-best put of 12.22m (40-1.25).
- Suzenski and Wallace also set a pair of personal-bests in the weight throw, reversing their order of finish. Suzenski took the win this time, throwing 15.01m (49-3) to improve to eighth all-time at W&M, while Wallace was second in her debut in the event with a throw of 13.30m (43-7.75). That ranks her 12th all-time among Tribe athletes.
- In the 60m dash, senior
Priya Sidhu (Issaquah, Wash.) was third overall in 8.02 seconds, and junior
Felecia Hayes (Chesapeake, Va.) was fourth with a lifetime-best race of 8.05 seconds. That improved Hayes to a tie for 10th in school history.
- In the 800m, senior
Deirdre Lewin (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) earned the win in 2:17.02, her fastest-ever indoors. Freshman
Megan Dougherty (Sinking Spring, Pa.) was second in 2:23.84, and her classmate
Anna Cestari (Washington, D.C.) was fourth in 2:27.19.
- Freshman
Kaycee Cox-Philyaw (Linden, Va.) picked up the victory in the mile, running 5:12.82 to lead a 1-2-3 sweep. Redshirt-sophomore
Julia Lambert (Virginia Beach, Va.) was second in 5:18.84, and senior
Karina Tavares (Bristol, R.I.) was third in 5:18.90.
- Rounding out the top performers was redshirt-junior
Sophie Caplan (Clarksville, Md.), who took second in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.35m (10-11.75).
William & Mary finishes the indoor season next weekend at the ECAC Championships in Boston, Mass. The meet begins on Friday, March 6, with the pentathlon, while the individual events and relays take place Saturday and Sunday, March 7-8.
