Tribe Distance Squad Shines at Hill City Twilight

LYNCHBURG, Va. — William & Mary track & field turned in a strong showing at the Hill City Twilight on Saturday, highlighted by event victories, multiple podium finishes and another addition to the program's all-time top-10 list.

The Tribe distance squad was paced by senior Jonathan Kumer, who delivered one of the top performances of the meet in the men's 800m Invite. Kumer placed fourth in a personal-best time of 1:47.52, a mark that ranks as the sixth-fastest performance in William & Mary program history.

William & Mary also picked up a pair of event victories on the day. Kelly Ann Sutterfield led a dominant showing in the women's 1500m, winning the race in 4:30.75. The Tribe placed three of the top four finishers in the event, as Abby Lane finished third in 4:32.99 and Veronica Znajda added a fourth-place finish in 4:35.13.

In the men's 3,000m steeplechase Invite, Nolan Yeagle added another victory for the Tribe, winning the event in 9:22.31.

The Tribe also turned in a strong performance in the men's 1500m, placing three runners inside the top six. Amberson Bauer led the way with a runner-up finish in 3:51.56, while Luke Ellwood placed fourth in 3:54.40 and Quinn Green added a sixth-place finish in 3:55.56.

On the women's side, Anne McSweeney posted a podium finish in the 800m, placing third in 2:18.77, while Allison McDonald added a runner-up finish in the women's 3,000m steeplechase Invite with a time of 10:56.62.

Madilyn Lewis rounded out the Tribe's top performances with a third-place finish in the women's 400m, crossing the line in 57.49.

William & Mary returns to action on Sunday, May 3, when the remainder of the Tribe competes at the Duke Twilight in Durham, N.C.
