WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—The William & Mary track and field programs finished Friday of the 58
th Annual Colonial Relays with the men sitting in first place while the women are in second. The meet wraps up on Saturday with field events (Dan Stimson Throwing Area) starting at 10 a.m. and track events (Zable Stadium) at 11:50 a.m.
The men hold an two point lead over Virginia Tech, while the women are six points behind of Bucknell. The last time the Tribe men won the team title at the event was 2019, while the women one just a year ago. The last time both Tribe programs won Colonial Relays in the same year was 2009.
There are 33 total schools competing in the meet alongside the Tribe.
Talia Anderson posted the Tribe's first event win of the meet with a victory in the hammer throw. She posted a mark of 45.07m which places her as the 13
th performer all-time in William & Mary history for the event.
Jason Nwosu followed up his fourth-place performance in Thursday's hammer throw by grabbing the top spot in the shot put on Friday. Nwosu, who has had a successful start to the outdoor season, posted a personal best of 17.67m. The mark also raises him to the third best performer all-time for the Tribe in the event.
W&M also protected home turf in the men's javelin with Christopher Arias grabbing first place with his third attempt of 64.56m. Teammate
Raiden Lafortune finished third in the event with a toss of 59.95m
Megan Heidebrecht's posted 5.69m in the long jump to grab second place. Heidebrecht now owns nine of the top-20 performances in the long jump for William & Mary, with Friday's performance checking in at 15
th all-time.
Elizabeth Strobach and
Elizabeth Upright took second and third respectively for the Tribe. Strobach cleared 3.93m while Upright posted 3.78m. Strobach's performance ranks 15
th all-time for W&M as she now owns three of the top-15 marks in Tribe history.
Liv Cantby placed third in the javelin for the Tribe with a mark of 42.92m.
Action on the track saw
Brian Walsh take first place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.27. The mark is a personal best for the freshman.
Jacob Robinson was also victorious in the men's 200m with a time of 21.72.
The Tribe had a trio of runner-up finishes on the track via
Lucas Thompson (800m, 1:54.04),
Katriel Amoyaw (100m hurdles, 14.92) and
Melissa Cunningham (100m, 11.84).
Cunningham's time is the fastest in program history but does not qualify as the program record due to wind.
Amoyaw's showing on Friday now puts her as the 11
th performer all-time in the event for the Tribe and sets a personal best for her by 0.03 seconds.
David Seekford posted a solid time of 53.97 to earn a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles. He now sits as the ninth best performer for W&M all-time in the event after Friday's run.
Kyra Holland, with an impressive kick down the final straightaway, broke into the top performers in the women's 5k at W&M. Her personal best of 16:27.99 earned her a third-place finish in the event and is now 14
th all-time in Tribe performers for the event.
Rachel McArthur, running unattached, set the pace in the 5k with an impressive time of 15:43.91. McArthur's performance set not only a meet record but a facility record at Zable Stadium.
