LEXINGTON, Ky. — William & Mary track & field opened competition at the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East First Round on Wednesday night at the UK Track & Field Complex with standout performances from freshman Uriah Harris and senior Jonathan Kumer.

Harris delivered a record-tying performance in the men's shot put, posting a personal-best mark of 18.37m (60-3¼) to tie the William & Mary program record while breaking his own freshman school record. Harris finished 17th overall in the event against some of the top competitors in the East Region.

The freshman previously held the school freshman record with a throw of 17.89m (58-8.25), set earlier this season at the Dan Stimson Memorial on March 28.

Kumer advanced to Friday's quarterfinal round in the men's 800m after clocking a personal-best time of 1:47.19 in Wednesday's first round. The mark ranks second all-time in William & Mary program history.

The senior qualified for the next round after finishing among the top advancing times from the opening heats. Friday's quarterfinal is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with the top 12 finishers advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Junior Hayes Trapp wrapped up the evening for the Tribe in the men's 10,000m semifinal, finishing in 30:22.62.

William & Mary continues competition at the NCAA East First Round on Thursday with freshman Amelia Bawcombe competing in the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. and junior Elizabeth Strobach competing in the women's pole vault semifinal at 6:30 p.m.
