LYNCHBURG, Va. – In a come-from-behind win in his heat on Friday,
Austin Rice highlighted William & Mary track & field's weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational with a 400m Dash program record. Pulling ahead of Western Kentucky's Julian Klenner in the final meters, the Tribe sophomore shaved over two tenths of a second off his best time for a 48.5 finish to etch a new name atop the record books.
Stretching the strong performances into the second day of the meet, a pair of freshman records were set by
Becca Harkness in the 1000m Run and
Jamison Gilmore in the 300m Dash.
Melissa Cunningham finished 13
th overall among 57 runners in the 60m Dash, posting a 7.79 time.
Emily Ervin clocked in at 24.97 in the women's 200m Dash to lead the W&M runners. On the men's side, Rice was just .04 shy of his personal-best time, clocking in with a 22.24 finish.
Gilmore ran a 41.52 in the 300m Dash to break a freshman record set in 2015.
Ervin placed eighth overall in the 400m Dash with a time of 59.19.
Rice's program record 48.5 finish in the men's 400m was good for a third-place finish overall.
Jacob Robinson also ran a program top-five race, clocking in at 49.1 to rank fifth all-time in W&M history.
Clare Howard posted a 1:19.17 time in the women's 500m Dash and
Evelyn Brantley finished in 1:22.14.
In the men's 500m, freshman
David Seekford was just shy of the freshman record, posting a 1:05.63 mark for a seventh overall finish in the event.
Sam Pritchard broke into the program top-15 with a 1:53.16 mark.
In the 1000m,
Becca Harkness made a third-place finish with her freshman-record time of 2:54.15, breaking her own freshman record time from the Navy Invitational. She broke into the all-time rankings in the event, coming in at 11
th in program history.
Catherine Garrison also placed in the top ten, clocking in at 2:58.64 for a ninth-place finish.
Arianna DeBoer posted a 4:54.78 mile.
Nate Jennings earned a win in the 5000m Run with a time of 14:35.79.
The 4x400 Relay team of Robinson, Seekford,
Jonathan Kumer and Rice made a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:16.40, marking the sixth-fastest relay in program history.
The men's Distance Medley Relay placed third overall in the event, as
Luke Henkel,
Matthias Oettl,
Lucas Thompson and
Braedan Gallagher posted a 10:21.70 finish.
Jason Nwosu posted an indoor personal best in the Shot Put, achieving a 16.29m mark.
Elizabeth Upright posted a 3.65m mark in the Pole Vault open section A and
Elizabeth Strobach matched it.
Fiona Basewitz recorded a 3.35m mark in the Pole Vault to tie for sixth in the open section.
Megan Heidebrecht's 5.79m mark in the women's Long Jump invite was good for a fifth-place finish, just .05m short of her best mark.
