JACKSONVILLE, Fl. – Wrapping up strong in the Sunshine State.
At Saturday's NCAA East First Round, held at the University of North Florida, freshman
Catherine Garrison, as well as the 4x400 relay team of
Amaya Johnson,
Lizzy Gregory,
Carly Swierbut, and
Emily Ervin, notched solid performances to cap off an incredible outdoor season for William & Mary.
Garrison — who set the program's new freshman mark in the 3,000m steeplechase at this year's Colonial Relays — posted a time of 10:44.00 in her prelims heat to place 40
th overall. It was, of course, the first NCAA appearance for the Richmond native, who only started running the event after suiting up for the Green and Gold this spring. She now owns three of the top-15 times in program history.
In the final event of the prelims, the Tribe's relay squad ran a 3:41.17; the sixth-fastest time by a W&M team. History has been nothing new for this quartet, either. The squad first broke the school record at this season's Colonial Relays before cutting nearly three seconds off that time and posting a brand-new mark of 3:35.97 at the CAA Championships. Then, they helped the Tribe take third place at the ECAC Championships, becoming the first relay team to win gold and finishing the race in 3:36.94. It's also now the second-fastest finish in the Tribe's record books.
