DEDHAM, Mass. -The William & Mary men's track & field team concluded the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Saturday night, after winning two more championships and finishing third overall in the team standings with 102 points. Northeastern won their seventh CAA title in a row with 264 points, while UNCW was second with a total of 238 points. Hofstra took fourth with 8 points.
Red-shirt freshman
Chris Arias was named the Most Outstanding Field Athlete of the Championships after his winning performance in the javelin yesterday. In conference, this marks the sixth year in a row that W&M has captured the MOP in the field events and the first championship title for the Red Bank, N.J., native.
How it Happened:
- Redshirt sophomore
Daniel Layton captured gold in the decathlon collecting a total of 6,065 points. In the dec. 400m, Layton won the event clocking in at 50.73 and won the dec. 110m hurdles at 15.38. He continued his reign in the dec. 1500m with a winning time of 4:30.74 and captured first in the dec. shot put with a mark of 12.08m. The Waynesburg, Pa. native, closed out his victory in the dec. pole vault with a winning mark of 3.65m. Layton is the first W&M athlete to win the event since 2015 and ranks as the best performance since 2004.
- On the field redshirt sophomore,
Harrison Duncan won gold in the triple jump with a mark of 13.79m, adding 10 points to the team score.
-In the 100m dash sophomore,
Jackson Cooley finished in fifth place at 10.95, contributing two points to the Tribe's total.
- Junior
Stephen Larson finished first for the Tribe in the 800m, in third at 1:54.06. Rookie
Owen Lipps (1:54.95) and senior
Alex Loukili (1:55.21) finished right behind capturing fourth and fifth respectively. Together the trio added 12 points to the Tribe's total.
- In the 3000m steeplechase redshirt sophomore
Tyler Lipps placed fourth at 9:30.42, contributing four points to the team.
- Team of rookies

Paul Johnson, and sophomore
Jackson Cooley finished second in the 4x100m relay with a combined time of 43.24, adding eight points to the team tally.
- In the 1500m junior
Andrew Lagattuta added eight points to the Tribe's total after placing second at 3:50.21. Junior
Jacob Jones finished in third at 3:50.52 (8 pts.) and redshirt-senior
Evan Goodell brought it home for the Tribe in fifth at 3:52.58 (2pts.)
- In the 5,000m, redshirt-senior
Spencer Tsai finished first for the Green & Gold in fifth (2pts.) place at 14:41.73, while
Jacob Jones finished in sixth (1pt.), at 14:46.68.
- Wrapping it up for the Tribe in the 4x400m, team of
Jackson Cooley,
Stephen Larson, rookie
Owen Lipps, and senior
Alex Loukili finished in third at 3:23.96, adding six points to the Tribe's overall score.
