Gabe Dorsey Joins William & Mary Men’s Basketball

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's basketball head coach Dane Fischer announced the addition of 6-6 transfer wing Gabe Dorsey (Westminster, Md. / The Hill School) to the Tribe roster. Dorsey was a top-150 recruit after a standout career at The Hill School (Pa.) before playing his freshman season in the Southeastern Conference at Vanderbilt.

"We are very excited to welcome Gabe to the Tribe Basketball family," Fischer said. "He is a big wing whose offensive game is built off his ability to shoot the ball. Gabe has a tremendous work ethic and can defend multiple positions. He will give us some flexibility with our lineup next season because of his size and skill set. Gabe has a reputation as a big-time shooter, but he has the ability to impact winning in a number of ways because of his toughness, focus and outstanding leadership skills."

As a freshman, Dorsey appeared in 22 games and made two starts in helping the Commodores to its best season since 2016-17. Vandy won 19 games and advanced to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament.

Dorsey was rated a top-150 recruit in the country by both 247Sports and Rivals coming out of The Hill School. He was a four-star recruit as well as the sixth-best recruit in the state of Pennsylvania and No. 29 small forward by 247Sports. Along with playing for a top-level prep program, Dorsey played AAU for Team Durant on the Nike EYBL circuit.

Dorsey concluded his high school career, earning first team all-state honors and being named the 2021 Mercury All-Area Player of the Year. During his abbreviated senior season, shortened to 11 games because of COVID-19, he became just the third Hill School boys player in the last 10 years to reach the 1,000-point career milestone. He averaged 15.5 points, five rebounds and three assists in 2021.

A prolific shooter during his prep career, Dorsey twice set the single-season Hill School record for made threes during both his sophomore (75) and junior (78) seasons. He graduated as the program's all-time leader in 3-pointers made, shooting better than 40% from distance during each of his final two seasons.

Dorsey comes from a basketball family. His father, Stephen, played basketball at both VMI and Towson, while his uncle also was a member of the Keydet program. Dorsey's brother, Caleb, is currently a junior on the Penn State basketball team.

Dorsey becomes the Tribe's eighth newcomer, including the program's fifth transfer student-athlete. The Tribe also added transfers in 6-0 guard Nelson Anders (Edina, Minn. / Edina / St. Thomas), 6-3 guard Chris Mullins (Grand Prairie, Texas / Mansfield Timberview / Rice), 6-5 guard Matteus Case (Pickering, Ontario / Chaminade Prep / Providence) and 6-8 forward Noah Collier (Mullica Hill, N.J. / Westtown School (Pa.) / Pittsburgh). The list of newcomers also includes a trio of incoming freshmen in 6-7 guard/forward Jack Karasinski (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central), 6-10 forward Charlie Williams (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) and 6-5 guard Chase Lowe (Charlotte, N.C. / Weddington).
