Harrison Duncan Best Long Jump in Nearly 30 Years, to Open Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -The William & Mary men's track & field team completed its first day of the Colonial Relays, on Friday. After 12 events scored the Green & Gold currently stands in 20th place with nine points.

Sophomore Harrison Duncan won the long jump university event and recorded a personal best with a mark of 7.03m, the best jump in W&M history since 1993.

How It Happened:
  • In the 1500m, junior Jacob Jones contributed six points to the Tribe after finishing third overall at  3:50.16. Junior Stephen Larson finished second for W&M in 14th  place at 3:57.31, while rookie Owen Lipps rounded it out for the Tribe at 3:59.17.
  • In the 400m hurdles, red-shirt sophomore Daniel Layton finished first in his heat and placed sixth overall at 54.60, contributing three points to the Green & Gold's overall score.
  • Over in the 5K championships, sophomore Tyler Lipps finished first for the Tribe in 17th place at 14:43.81, while graduate student Evan Goodell secured his spot in the top 20 in 19th at 14:45.94. Red-shirt freshman Patrick North rounded it for the Tribe at 14:50.69 in 27th place.
  • In the 200m, sophomore Jackson Cooley finished second in his heat at 22.56. Cooley later competed in the 100-meter dash where he finished fifth in his heat at 11.22.
  • The Tribe also had contributions from freshmen Russ Burns and Paul Johnson. In the 400m, both rookies finished fourth in their respective heats, Burns at 11.47 and Johnson at 11.38. 
The Colonial Relays continue on Saturday, with events beginning at 9:00 a.m.
