Tribe Men's Track & Field Wins Five Events Sunday at CNU

The William & Mary men's track & field team closed out the regular season strong on Sunday at the CNU Qualifier, leading all nine teams at the meet with five wins despite competing in only nine events.  The Tribe also picked up two more IC4A Championships qualifiers and two new entries in the record books.

- In the shot put, junior Connor Scott (Mechanicsville, Va.) improved his lifetime-best yet again, putting the shot 17.24m (56-6.75) for second overall.  In addition to re-qualifying for the IC4A Championships, he also improved to fifth all-time among Tribe athletes.  Scott also set a lifetime-best in the weight throw, winning the event with a throw of 16.46m (54-0) to improve to 15th in school history.

- W&M's other IC4A mark Sunday came in the pole vault, where redshirt-sophomore Michael Fairbanks (Fairfax Station, Va.) re-qualified with a first-place clearance of 5.00m (16-4.75).

- Redshirt-junior George Cross (Leesburg, Va.) picked up a win of his own in the triple jump, hitting the sand at 13.60m (44-7.5).  That was the second-longest indoor jump of his career.  Cross also set an indoor-best earlier in the day in the long jump, finishing third with a jump of 6.57m (21-6.75).

- Sophomore Ryan Thomas (Leesburg, Va.) won the high jump with a collegiate-best clearance of 1.97m (6-5.5), his first of three performances on the day.  He also competed in the 60m hurdles, running 8.64 in the prelims and 8.70 in the finals to take fourth overall.

- W&M's fifth win came in the 3,000m run, where true freshman Tyler Lipps (Virginia Beach, Va.) won in 8:39.97.  Redshirt-freshman Ryan McCracken (Richmond, Va.) was third overall, in 9:12.86.

- Rounding out the notable performers was redshirt-junior Matt Chabala (San Ramon, Calif.), in the 60m dash.  After running 7.25 in the prelims, he improved to take fifth in the finals with a time of 7.21 seconds.

William & Mary finishes the indoor season next weekend at the IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass.  The meet begins on Friday, March 6, with the first four events of the heptathlon, while the individual events and relays take place Saturday and Sunday, March 7-8.
