Kathleen Lautzenheiser's ECAC Mark Highlights Tribe Open for W&M Women's Track

The William and Mary women's track and field team opened the 2011 outdoor season Saturday, hosting eight teams in the Tribe Open.  The Tribe finished the weekend with two championship qualifications, as well as 13 top-five finishes.

1,500m Run
In the 1,500m run, freshman Kathleen Lautzenheiser (Midlothian, Va.) ran a terrific 4:30.31 for second place, and qualified to both the ECAC Championships and USAT&F Junior Championships later this summer.  Her time was also less than two seconds off of the College's freshman record.  Classmate Elaina Balouris (Allison Park, Pa.) was fifth in the race, crossing the line in 4:32.44.

Pole Vault
In the pole vault, freshman teammates Nicole Dory (Fort Worth, Texas) and Austyn Rapp (Midlothian, Texas) each cleared the bar at 3.40 meters (11-1.75), with Dory taking third and Rapp fourth on the basis of attempts.  The height ties both freshmen for seventh in school history outdoors in the pole vault.

Javelin Throw
In the javelin, senior Katie Guevel (Burlington, Kan.) took second with a throw of 36.72m (120-6) to lead three Tribe athletes in the top five.  Freshman Anna Rose Gellert (Providence, N.J.) was third at 29.46m (96-8) in her collegiate debut, and classmate Kayla Trantham (Poquoson, Va.) was throwing the javelin for the first time ever while taking fifth at 25.60m (84-0).

3,000m Run
In the 3,000m run, junior Sara Lasker (Fredericksburg, Va.) ran a personal-best 10:14.30 to take third overall.  Senior Kelsey Budd (Oakton, Va.) was fourth in 10:23.46, and junior Kristen Dietz (Springfield, Va.) also ran a personal-best 10:29.94, taking fifth.

100m Hurdles
Katie Guevel also competed in the 100m hurdles, placing fourth with a time of 14.70 seconds.

Triple Jump
Also taking fourth on the day was freshman Grace Elizabeth Oxley (Silver Spring, Md.) , who leapt a personal-best 10.88m (35-8.5) in the triple jump.

Shot Put
The freshman class also impressed in the shot put, where Erin Challis (Toano, Va.) made her collegiate debut with a put of 11.00m (36-1.25) to take fifth place.

William and Mary returns to action next weekend with athletes in action across three different states.  Selected athletes will head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Raleigh, North Carolina, for the Alabama and Raleigh Relays, while the majority of the team will head up to Richmond for the Spider Invitational.
