The William and Mary women's track and field team opened the 2011 outdoor season Saturday, hosting eight teams in the Tribe Open. The Tribe finished the weekend with two championship qualifications, as well as 13 top-five finishes.
1,500m Run
In the 1,500m run, freshman
Kathleen Lautzenheiser
(Midlothian, Va.)
ran a terrific 4:30.31 for second place, and qualified to both the ECAC Championships and USAT&F Junior Championships later this summer. Her time was also less than two seconds off of the College's freshman record. Classmate

was fifth in the race, crossing the line in 4:32.44.
Pole Vault
In the pole vault, freshman teammates
Nicole Dory

Austyn Rapp

each cleared the bar at 3.40 meters (11-1.75), with Dory taking third and Rapp fourth on the basis of attempts. The height ties both freshmen for seventh in school history outdoors in the pole vault.
Javelin Throw
In the javelin, senior

(Burlington, Kan.)
took second with a throw of 36.72m (120-6) to lead three Tribe athletes in the top five. Freshman
Anna Rose Gellert
(Providence, N.J.)
was third at 29.46m (96-8) in her collegiate debut, and classmate
Kayla Trantham
(Poquoson, Va.)
was throwing the javelin for the first time ever while taking fifth at 25.60m (84-0).
3,000m Run
In the 3,000m run, junior
Sara Lasker
(Fredericksburg, Va.)
ran a personal-best 10:14.30 to take third overall. Senior

was fourth in 10:23.46, and junior

also ran a personal-best 10:29.94, taking fifth.
100m Hurdles

also competed in the 100m hurdles, placing fourth with a time of 14.70 seconds.
Triple Jump

, who leapt a personal-best 10.88m (35-8.5) in the triple jump.
Shot Put

made her collegiate debut with a put of 11.00m (36-1.25) to take fifth place.
William and Mary returns to action next weekend with athletes in action across three different states. Selected athletes will head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Raleigh, North Carolina, for the Alabama and Raleigh Relays, while the majority of the team will head up to Richmond for the Spider Invitational.
