CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - William & Mary senior Perry Irons once again turned in an impressive performance in leading the women's cross country team to a second-place showing at the Virginia Invitational on Friday morning at the Panorama Farms Course.

After winning CAA Runner of the Week honors to open the season on Sept. 2, Irons made another strong case for recognition on Friday. She covered the 5K course in 16:50.4 to lead the Green and Gold charge and finish as the event runner-up in a field of 110 runners. As a team, the Tribe women's program put all five of its scoring runners for the second-straight event to finish second with 65 points behind only No. 20 Virginia.

On the men's side, junior Hayes Trapp led the Tribe charge with a 14th-place finish followed closely by redshirt freshman Collin Walsh who was 15th. Both runners covered the 8K course in 25:09.0 to push the Green and Gold to a fourth-place finish in the nine-team field. W&M totaled 103 points behind No. 6 Virginia (18), DIII No. 4 Johns Hopkins (59), and Southeast Region No. 12 App State (88). The Tribe topped Mid-Atlantic Region No. 15 George Washington, who was fifth with 107 points.

Joining Irons in the top 20 on the women's side was junior Jennifer Tsai (17:41.4) in 13th, senior Kelly Ann Sutterfield (17:55.1) in 18th, freshman Veronica Znajda (17:59.0) in 19th, and sophomore Molly Weithman (17:59.9) in 20th. The Tribe's top five all covered the course in less than 18 minutes.

For the Tribe men's team, all five runners finished in the top 30. Joining Trapp and Walsh in the Green and Gold's scoring group was redshirt freshman Caleb Wilcox (25:13.5) in 22nd, sophomore Wyatt Townsend (25:14.3) in 23rd, and senior Luke Ellwood (25:22.4) in 29th.

W&M returns to action on Friday, Oct. 3, when it travels to the Firetower Project Run at State Farm Field in Boone, N.C.
