4x400m men's relay team celebrates school record at Penn

Relay Efforts Lead the Way for Track and Field at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.— The William & Mary track and field program wrapped up three days of action at the historic Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The event ran from Thursday-Saturday at Franklin Field.

The highlight of the event for W&M came via the men's 4x400m relay team of Jacob Robinson, David Seekford, Charlie Bestic and Austin Rice. The quartet set the program record by more than two seconds with a time of 3:10.36 in Friday's prelim, breaking the old record that had stood since 1985. The squad advanced to the final, finishing in fourth with a time of 3:11.11 on Saturday, the second fastest time in W&M history.

Caleb Wilcox, Owen Lipps, Amberson Bauer and Jonathan Kumer teamed up for a runner-up finish in the men's 4x800m on Saturday. The quartet finished just a second behind Rutgers for the stop spot, crossing the line in 7:25.56. That time is good for the third best in Tribe program history.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Kianne Benjamin, Aurora Schwaner, Avery Glidden and Emily Ervin qualified for the finals on Saturday with a time of 3:42.31 in the prelims. The group finished fifth in Saturday's final with a time of 3:44.92. Their qualifying time was the seventh best mark in program history.
 
Perry Irons, Kelly Ann Sutterfield, Jennifer Tsai and Emily Sell were a part of a fifth place effort in the women's 4x800m relay with a time of 8:57.30.
 
Hayes Trapp was able to get the Tribe off to a successful start on Thursday evening, earning a top-10 finish, coming in ninth, in the 10,000m. Trapp crossed the line with a time of 29:38.27 for the event that began with a field of 21 runners.
 
Other action on Thursday saw Collin Walsh post a time of 8:56.03 in the 3,000m steeplechase, good for 19th place. The time puts Walsh as the eighth best performer all-time for the Tribe in the event and also set the new freshman record. Arianna DeBoer came in 17th for the same event on the women's side, crossing the line in 35:06.64.
 
Jennifer Tsai, Perry Irons, Emily Sell and Kelly Ann Sutterfield teamed up in the distance medley relay to cross the line with a time of 11:46.07, the best time the Tribe has posted in the event since 2010 and the eighth best time in program history.
 
Elizabeth Strobach finished fifth in the pole vault on Friday with teammate Olesya Sitkowski one spot behind in sixth. Strobach cleared 3.96m for her top five finish, while Sitkowski posted 3.81m.
 
The Tribe returns to action at the Hill City Twilight on Friday in Lynchburg, Va.
