Five Tribe Athletes to Compete at NCAA East First Round in Lexington

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary track & field will send five student-athletes to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East First Round, hosted by the University of Kentucky from May 27-29 in Lexington, Ky.

Freshmen Uriah Harris and Amelia Bawcombe, junior Elizabeth Strobach, junior Hayes Trapp and senior Jonathan Kumer will represent the Tribe at the regional meet, where competitors will vie for spots at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.

The NCAA East First Round features the top 48 declared student-athletes in each individual event from the East Region, with the top 12 finishers in each event advancing to the NCAA Championships.

Harris qualified in both the shot put and discus after an impressive freshman campaign that included a CAA title in the shot put last weekend. Harris enters the regional meet ranked 34th in the East Region in the discus and 44th in the shot put. A three-time CAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season, Harris owns the William & Mary freshman records in both the discus at 55.83m (183-2) and the shot put at 17.89m (58-8.25). He also ranks third all-time in program history in the discus and seventh in the shot put.

Bawcombe earned a berth in the women's hammer throw and enters the meet ranked 18th in the East Region. The freshman recently captured the CAA title in the event while resetting the William & Mary freshman record with a mark of 62.26m (204-3).

Strobach qualified in the women's pole vault and heads to Lexington ranked 15th in the East Region. The junior is coming off a record-breaking performance at the CAA Championships where she won the conference title while breaking both the William & Mary and CAA Championship records with a clearance of 4.28m (14-0.50).

Trapp will compete in the men's 10,000m after winning the CAA title in the event last weekend. The junior enters the regional meet ranked 43rd in the East Region and earned CAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors once during the outdoor season. Trapp also ranks 10th all-time in program history in the 10,000m.

Kumer earned his spot in the men's 800m and is ranked 41st in the East Region entering the competition. The senior owns the sixth-best performance in William & Mary history in the event after running 1:47.52 at the Hill City Twilight on May 2.

Competition for William & Mary begins on Wednesday, May 27, with Harris competing in the men's shot put at 6:30 p.m., Kumer competing in the men's 800m first round at 7:50 p.m., and Trapp racing in the men's 10,000m semifinal at 9:10 p.m. Thursday's schedule includes Bawcombe in the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. and Strobach in the women's pole vault semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Harris wraps up the weekend for the Tribe on Friday in the men's discus at 1 p.m.

The list of qualifiers for the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be announced by 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 31, with the final championship field announced on Tuesday, June 2.
