RICHMOND, Va. - For the third time this season, William & Mary cross country took home both the CAA Men's and Women's Runner of the Week awards, the league announced on Tuesday. Senior
Perry Irons won her third honor of the season, while junior
Hayes Trapp took home his second accolade.
Irons also earned the CAA Runner of the Week award on Sept. 2 and Sept. 16. She is one of two runners in the CAA to earn three awards this season along with Elon's Katie Blount, who shared the award this week.
Trapp took home the accolade on Sept. 16 as well after his performance at the Virginia Invitational and this marks his third career honor. Trapp is the only male runner in the CAA to receive the honor on two occasions this season. Redshirt freshman
Caleb Wilcox also earned the CAA Runner of the Week distinction following the Tribe's first competition of the season at the Spider Alumni Open on Sept. 2.
Irons turned in an impressive time of 20:10.7 to finish eighth in the 270-runner field at the Princeton Fall Classic on Oct. 17. Her time was the fastest in a 6K for a Tribe runner since Emily Stites at the 2015 CAA Championship (20:00.2). She led the Tribe to a 12th-place finish in a 25-team field that featured 18 regionally-ranked teams. W&M topped six regionally-ranked teams at the event.
Trapp led the Tribe men's team with a 14th-place finish at the Princeton Fall Classic. He covered the 8K course in a time of 23:25.0, which was his career-best 8K time. It was the fastest 8K time for a Tribe runner in over 15 years. As a team, W&M finished 19th in a 31-team field that included three nationally-ranked teams and 23 regionally-ranked foes. The Green and Gold finished ahead of five regionally-ranked teams, including defending CAA Champion Stony Brook.
The Tribe kicks off the championship season when it travels to Lakewood, N.J. and Ocean County Park to compete in the 2025 CAA Championships on Friday, Oct. 31.
