Jason Nwosu's Two Medals Pace Track & Field on Final Day of CAA Championships

ELON, N.C.— The William & Mary track and field programs finished off the final day of the CAA Outdoor Championships adding six medals on Saturday. The Tribe tallied a total of 11 podium finishes and two event wins.
 
Jason Nwosu's efforts led the Tribe on the day, with the sophomore grabbing the gold in the shot put and a bronze in the discus.
 
The W&M men finished fifth out of eight teams, while the women finished sixth out of the 13-team field.
 
Jacob Jones grabbed the first medal of the day for the Tribe in the men's 1,500m finals. Jones, a senior, crossed the line in 3:48.47, on his way to a third-place finish and a bronze.
 
Moments after Jones earned his medal, the Tribe earned their second event win of the championships via Nwosu in the shot put. He posted a toss of 17.00m on his first attempt which was good enough for the gold medal and the CAA title.
 
Nwosu success on Saturday didn't stop their however, as he rounded out the field events for the championships with a bronze medal in the discus. His fifth attempt was the one that put him on the podium, checking in at 49.04m
 
Megan Heidebrecht scored a silver for W&M on the women's side in Saturday's triple jump. The program record holder in the event, Heidebrecht posted her second-best mark of her career, 12.59m, to secure the runner-up finish.
 
Junior Nate Jennings found himself on the podium as well on Saturday, getting across the line in 14:27.62 in the men's 5,000m. The performance earned Jennings a third-place finish and a bronze medal in the event.
 
Another bronze was awarded to a Tribe athlete on Saturday, with Brian Walsh earning a spot on the podium in the decathlon. Walsh, just a freshman, posted a personal best of 6,631 points over the course of the two-day event.
 
Other action saw Jacob Robinson finish fifth in the 400m on Saturday in his CAA Championships debut. The freshman, who posted a top-five time in program history in yesterday's prelims, crossed the line in 47.72 on Saturday, just five hundredths of a second off his program freshman record.
