2009 Men's Cross Country Team

The team will be formally inducted, alongside the six former student-athletes on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024.  More details and registration information will follow.

Three individuals (Jon Grey, 17th, Patterson Wilhelm, 34th, Colin Leak, 40th) earned All-America honors, marking the first time W&M has had multiple All-Americans at a single NCAA cross country meet.
The squad also paced the 35-team field at the NCAA regional championship, scoring 49 points, tied with the 2000 team for lowest since 1971. Five individuals (Wilhelm, Grey, Leak, Zach Gates and Brian Sklodowski) earned all-region honors.

The 2009 team took the CAA Title, which was the team's 10th-straight league championship.  The squad had six runners (Sklodowski, Chris Tyson, Charlie Swartz, Max Werner, Ben Massam, Harry Miller) earn All-CAA honors.  The quality of its depth was on display as it sent a separate team of runners to the IC4A Championships (NCAA consolation race for Northeast teams) that finished second at the event. Tyson, Skeeter Morris, John Pence, Werner, and Pete Asaro earned All-East honors.

Head Coach Alex Gibby was named the CAA Cross Country and Southeast Regional Coach of the Year, while Jon Grey was named the CAA Athlete of the Year. Brian Sklodowski won the CAA Individual Championship and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Zach Gates was named the CAA Rookie of the Year.

The squad finished the year with a 137-11 (.923) overall record.
