NEW ORLEANS, La. – Sofia Istnick earned All-Academic individual honors and the William & Mary men's and women's cross country teams earned All-Academic distinction following the 2023 season, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Continuing in the commitment to academic excellence, the women's team earns the honor for the seventh consecutive season and the men's team earns its third-consecutive All-Academic title. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period. The women's team posted a 3.62 GPA and the men's team earned a 3.39 GPA.
Istnick finished 19
th at the 2023 NCAA Southeast Region Championship, posing an all-region performance with a time of 20:18.6. Paired with her academic excellence, Istnick became the first women's cross country athlete to earn the individual award since
Kyra Holland in 2020.
In order to qualify for individual All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
