Contract Extended for Women’s Tennis Coach Jessica Giuggioli

Just two months after leading William & Mary's women's tennis program to their second straight CAA title, head coach Jessica Giuggioli has signed a contract extension that runs through the 2027 season.

"I knew great things were ahead for women's tennis when Coach Giuggioli agreed to take over the program, and she quickly exceeded my expectations," says W&M Athletics Director Brian D. Mann. "The dominant win in the 2023 conference championship, in addition to winning numerous athletic and academic honors, demonstrates that our women's tennis program is in excellent hands with Coach Giuggioli.  Her dedication to her team and to winning is exemplary."

In addition to winning back-to-back CAA titles, this year's women's tennis team had eight ITA Scholar-Athletes and for the tenth year in a row was the ITA All-Academic Team, and was ranked No. 10 in the ITA Atlantic Region at the end of the season. Giuggioli has also won back-to-back CAA Coach of the Year honors.

"I love working at William & Mary and with my team, and I love living in Williamsburg," says Giuggioli.  "The past two years have been wonderful in what we have achieved, and I am excited about what the future holds for W&M women's tennis."

With the addition of five new players, Giuggioli says it's the perfect time to get a good sense of the team dynamic and to set new goals.  "Of course, the CAA Championship is always on the list, and next year we want to break into the rankings, which I believe is attainable with hard work and dedication."

She remains excited about the recruiting class, which features a mix of U.S. and international players from Italy, China, England and Serbia. With 12 players, women's tennis is a large program and the first order of business is to get a good sense of how quickly the dozen student-athletes will acclimate to the team's culture and work ethic.

Until the team's 2023-24 schedule is unveiled, Giuggioli will be enjoying one of the many perks of living in Williamsburg.  "It's such a beautiful town and you can easily walk to the downtown area.  My dog Oliver is pretty happy about that!"
