WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — No. 2 seed William & Mary women's tennis opens play in the CAA Championship semifinals on Saturday, April 18, facing the winner of No. 3 Charleston and No. 6 Campbell at 6 p.m. at the Mackesy Tennis Center at the Millie West Courts.
The Tribe enters the postseason with a 13–6 overall record, including a 6–1 mark in conference play. William & Mary's lone CAA loss came against top-seeded Elon, and the Tribe posted a 7–5 record at home during the regular season.
William & Mary has been driven by a balanced lineup throughout the spring, compiling a 72–41 record in dual singles play and a 35–17 mark in dual doubles matches. The Tribe boasts multiple standout performers, including Francesca Davis, who leads the team with a 15–3 dual singles record, and Rebeka Svabikova, who has posted a 14–4 mark. Mira Kernagis (13–4) and Alexia Gonzalez-Galino (11–5) have also been key contributors in the lineup.
In doubles, the pairing of Emma Pell and Yaelle Vaissaud has been among the conference's best, compiling a 14–1 record in dual matches, winners of 11-straight, while the duo of Gonzalez-Galino and Kernagis has added a 10–5 mark.
Charleston enters the tournament with a 15–7 overall record and a 6–2 mark in CAA play, winning two-straight matches to close the regular season. The Cougars have been strong in doubles with a 39–20 dual record and feature the tandem of Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle, who are 12–5 in dual matches. In singles, Charleston is led by Trinkle (13–7), Sia Cariov (13–9), and Marra Bruce (11–7).
The Tribe defeated Charleston, 4–3, earlier this season on March 14 in Charleston and holds an 8–4 advantage in the all-time series, including three-straight victories.
Campbell brings a 6–13 overall record into the championship and finished 2–1 in conference play. The Camels have totaled a 42–57 dual singles record this season, led by Ilouna Aneca (9–8) and Mollie Garcia (9–7). In doubles, the team of Garcia and Sandra Mari Marti has been the most consistent, posting a 7–2 dual record.
William & Mary is 2–0 all-time against Campbell, including a 4–1 victory in the 2024 CAA Championship quarterfinals.
The winner of Saturday's semifinal will advance to the CAA Championship match on Sunday, April 19, at 2 p.m., facing the winner of No. 1 seed Elon and either No. 4 UNCW or No. 5 Drexel.
Historically, William & Mary has been one of the premier programs in conference history. The Tribe has been seeded No. 1 or No. 2 in 24 of the last 28 CAA Championships and owns an 11–3 record as the No. 2 seed, including titles from that position in 2022 and 2024. Overall, William & Mary has won 29 of the CAA's 40 all-time women's tennis championships and holds a 73–10 (.879) record in the event since the league adopted its current team format in 1995. The Tribe also boasts a 178–25 (.876) all-time record against CAA opponents and is 35–3 in conference matches over the last five seasons under head coach Jessica Giuggioli.
