CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Talk about ending the regular season on a high note.
Much like they've done all spring, William & Mary's sprinters stole the spotlight in Sunday's Virginia High Performance Meet. Not only was the squad fast, many of them were historically so.
Melissa Cunningham led the way with a first-place showing in the 100m dash. Crossing the finish line in 11.97, her season's best showing is No. 3 on the Tribe's all-time performance list and marked just the third time a Green and Gold sprinter has posted a sub-12 second finish in the event.
Charlotte Robinson also ran a strong race, posting a PR of 12.58.
Then, in the 200m, four Tribe standouts finished top-6, led by
Emily Ervin who captured second place with a time of 24.28.
Amaya Johnson was third at 24.36,
Lizzy Gregory took fourth in 24.60, and
Carly Swierbut rounded out the group by running a 25.40. Ervin's time is the seventh fastest on record, giving the sophomore five of the top-10 times. Meanwhile, Johnson's finish is 10
th all-time. She also now owns multiple top-10 times.
200m
Robinson took 10
th place in the event.
800m
Makenzie Joiner took third place, running a 2:14.03 to lead a strong William & Mary showing.
Megan Dougherty finished seventh with a PR of 2:19.50, while
Anna Cestari was eighth (2:20.55), and
Jenny Gerson posted her own PR of 2:22.16 to take tenth.
Lydia Wallis and
Hannah Holland finished 12
th and 13
th.
400m Hurdles
Clare Howard posted a PR of 1:03.30, while
Hope Stephens ran a 1:14.71. Howard's performance moves her into a tie for No. 9 on the Tribe's all-time performers list.
1500m
Arianna DeBoer took fourth place with a time of 4:33.27, while
Lucy Young (4:41.53) and
Catherine Garrison (4:24.04) were 12
th and 13
th.
Kaycee Cox-Philyaw finished 16
th.
High Jump
Liliana Klemanski captured first at 1.60m (5-3).
Hammer Throw
Talia Anderson posted a PR at 44.27m (145-3) to capture fourth place. The throw moves her into No. 14 on the Tribe's all-time performers list.
Discus
Ella Carlson was fourth at 38.19m (125-3).
Shot Put
Carlson finished fourth at 12.02m (39-5.25).
