LYNCHBURG, Va. – Another day, another record broken for the William & Mary men's indoor track and field team. On Saturday, the final day of competition at Liberty University's 3
rd Annual Brant Tolsma Invitational, the history-making performance came from the fleet-footed
Austin Rice who broke the Tribe's 400m indoor freshman record, placing fourth in the event with a time of 48.73.
The previous record (50.47) stood for nearly four decades after being set by Kevin Toomer at the 1984 IC4A Championships.
On Friday, senior
Daniel Layton set a pair of W&M records—with overall heptathlon points and in the heptathlon 60m hurdles.
Field Events
Shot Put
Jason Nwosu and
Ross Bazzichi both notched top-10 finishes with a pair of strong performances. In just his second college competition, Nwosu placed fifth at 15.91m (52-02.50), while Bazzichi was 10
th at 14.10m (46-03.25).
Running Events
Mile
For the second straight event,
Sam Pritchard led the way for the Tribe, finishing second with a time of 4:07.13.
T.J. Corliss rounded out the top-5 finishes at 4:10.67, while
Evan Goodell was seventh (4:12.64) and
Jacob Jones was 10
th (4:16.15).
Luke Henkel added one more top-20 performance for the Tribe, finishing in 4:20.11 for 17
th.
400m
Austin Rice's freshman record-breaking performance earned him fourth place as he finished in 48.73.
800m
Jonathan Kumer added his own strong run to W&M's afternoon, placing second in 1:53.56.
Stephen Larson wasn't far behind, either, finishing in seventh with a time of 1:54.65.
1000m
The duo of
Sam Pritchard and
Jacob Jones claimed the top two spots in the event, finishing less than a second apart. Pritchard topped the field with a time of 2:34.48 and Jones wrapped up his run in 2:35.41.

The Tribe makes the trek to Pennsylvania next weekend, competing in the PSU National Open on Friday and Saturday.
