WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary sophomore Pyper Friedman and junior Jayden Moon were recently named to the 2023 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team and will attend next month's Junior Pan American Championship (JPAC) Selection Camp. The JPAC Selection Camp will take place from February 17 to 20 at Bessant Field at Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, N.C.
 
From this camp, a squad will be named to represent the USA at the 2023 Junior Pan American Championship from April 10 to 18 in Saint Michael, Barbados, at the Wildey Hockey Centre located in the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex. This junior men's and women's event is a qualifier for the 2023 FIH Hockey Junior World Cup.
 
The Tribe duo earned spots on the National Team roster following the U-21 Selection Camp, which was held at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., earlier this month.  
 
Friedman has become a fixture on the USA Field Hockey scene early in her collegiate career after playing for the U-21 U.S. Women's National Team in the Uniphar 5-Nations Tournament in Dublin, Ireland, last June. Meanwhile, this is Moon's first appearance with the National Team.
 
Following a 2021 freshman campaign that saw her earn CAA All-Rookie Team honors, Friedman followed it up with a strong sophomore season. She saw time in all 17 of the Tribe's games this past fall, including 15 starts, racking up one goal and dishing out a team-leading five assists.
 
Moon played in 15 games for the Green and Gold during the '22 season, starting in 13. A strong presence in the midfield, she recorded assists against UConn and Central Michigan in back-to-back games at Busch Field.
 
As a team, William & Mary had a historic run this fall, spending six straight weeks in the national rankings and posting three victories over top-20 foes.
