Ine Stange was honored as the Most Outstanding Performer of the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Women's Tennis Championship by a vote of the league coaches.
Stange becomes the 11th Tribe player on the 14th occasions to earn the MOP honors. She is the first Tribe freshman to garner the distinction.
Stange posted a 3-0 mark at No. 6 singles to help lead the Tribe to its 27th CAA Championship and first since 2018. She opened the event by clinching the Green and Gold's quarterfinal win over Towson with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sissi Axelsson.
In the comeback 4-3 semifinal win over Delaware, Stange rallied from a set deficit and gave W&M a 3-2 lead by topping Isabella Montana, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4. The Tribe rookie capped her weekend by defeating Elon's Shauna Galvin, 6-3, 7-5, to increase W&M's lead to 3-0 on the way to a 4-1 triumph in the championship match over Elon.

Hedda Gurholt were also 2-1 at No. 3 doubles in the tournament. The duo clinched the important doubles point in the championship match win over the host Phoenix.
Stange has come on strong at the end of the season, winning her final six singles matches. She is 16-8 overall on the year, including a 12-7 dual-match mark. Stange was an impressive 7-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Tribe heads to No. 6 NC State for the first round of the 2022 NCAA Championship. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, May 7, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
