About Dan Stimson
Dan Stimson came to William & Mary in the summer of 1986 as the first Director of Track & Field, overseeing the newly combined men's and women's programs, a position he held for the following 25 years. Stimson also served as an assistant coach for three years after stepping down as Director in 2011, and another three years as a volunteer until passing away in the fall of 2017. During his tenure as the head of the Tribe, Stimson's team won 49 Colonial Athletic Association Championships, a total that would rank third among all schools and all sports during that span, and earned 90 conference awards and 64 All-American honors. Thirty-six athletes under Stimson were elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society, and three of W&M's six total Rhodes Scholars had ties to the Tribe track & field team.
