MORGANTOWN, W.V.- Sophia Heilen swam a 2:02.07 200 IM time to break the William & Mary freshman record Thursday evening at the WVU Invitational. Katie Stevenson put in a personal best 23.03 in the 50 free to finish second, and the Tribe women's 400 Medley Relay brought in the fifth best time in school history to open the three-day long meet.
FULL RESULTS
500 Free
Devin Genderson finished fifth in the 500, cutting over 14 seconds off her entry time with a 4:56.38 time in the opening swim of the day. Elizabeth Intihar cut five seconds to swim a 4:57.95 and Kristen Dagg produced a 5:00.92 in the 500 free. On the men's side, Will Glass had the Tribe's fastest time at 4:39.95 and Rhett Cosgrove swam a 4:42.52 to cut seven seconds off his entry time.
FINALS
Intihar dropped over 6.50 seconds from her prelim time to swim a 4:51.29 final, finishing fourth. Genderson came in sixth with a 4:56.57 and Dagg improved by just under a second to finish 12th. Glass took a full two seconds off his prelim time to swim a 4:37.95 and Cosgrove knocked off nearly three full seconds from his morning swim.
200 IM
Sophia Heilen had a 2:02.80 time in the 200 IM to set a William & Mary freshman record. Ellie Scherer had a 2:04.59 to cut three seconds off her entry time and place eighth in the prelims. Lauren Klinefelter and Taylor Stockard placed 15 and 16 respectively. Connor Sokolowsky swam a 1:51.67 to drop nearly six and a half seconds off his entry time and finish eighth in the prelims, while Noah Fields swam to a 1:53.48 time.
FINALS
In the final, Heilen dropped .10 off her own record time for a new freshman mark of 2:02.70 and Scherer also improved finishing sixth with a 2:03.76 mark. Sokolowsky finished fifth, cutting his prelim time by nearly a second for a 1:50.73 finish and Cole Younger knocked 3.69 seconds off of his prelim time.
50 Free
Katie Stevenson produced a personal best time of 23.03 to rank first among all swimmers in the prelims. Caroline Burgeson, Sydney Querner, and Elizabeth Kuhlkin all dropped times to rank in the top-20. Alex Valliere placed 12th in the prelims with a 20.98 time in the sprint.
FINALS
Stevenson finished second with an exact same time of 23.03 in the 50 free final, while Burgerson, Querner, and Kuhlkin all dropped time in the night session. Valliere finished 11th with a time of 20.89, dropping .09 seconds from his morning swim.
200 Free Relay (Finals only)
Stevenson swam a blistering 22.97 to lead off and Querner was just a tick behind with an anchor leg of 22.98 as the Tribe finished fourth in the relay with a time of 1:32.72. The Tribe men finished seventh at 1:23.33 as John O'Hara had the best time swimming 20.57. Massari and Lamoureux also swam sub-21 second times.
400 Medley Relay (Finals only)
The William & Mary women placed first in the 400 Medley Relay as Kat Vanbourgondien swam a 56.19 opening leg and Stevenson finished with a 49.11 100 free. Overall, the team dropped nearly eight seconds, finishing with a time of 3:42.21. The time was the fifth fastest time in school history. The Tribe men finished fifth overall with a time of 3:20.92, a 6.69 second drop. O'Hara swam a 45.27 time as the anchor and Aaron Tingley led off with a 51.43 pace time.
