William & Mary rising junior
Missy Cundiff (Leesburg, Va.) was named an Honorable Mention Scholar All-American this week by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America, recognizing her outstanding achievement in both the pool and the classroom in 2019-20. The CSCAA Scholar All-America program requires student-athletes to both maintain over a 3.5 GPA, and to qualify for the NCAA Championships, in order to attain the honor. In total, 117 Division I women's programs had at least one athlete qualify, including 14 women from five Colonial Athletic Association teams.
Cundiff, an accounting major, led the way in 2019-20 for W&M in the sprinting ranks. She swam an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark and personal-best of 22.56 in the 50 free, and went 12-2 overall in that event during the season with her only two non-wins being a bronze-medal finish in the CAA finals and a false-start in a dual meet in the regular season. Cundiff also set lifetime-bests in the 100 free (50.51) and the 100 fly (55.77) in 2019-20. As well, she won the CAA title in the 200 free relay, leading-off W&M's championship relay on the second night of the conference championships, and earned All-CAA honors with runner-up showings in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. Cundiff finished the year second for the Tribe with 341.25 points and 12 victories, and enters the second half of her career with 16 wins and 513.5 points already to her credit.
