Seven PBs Lead W&M Women's Track & Field on Saturday at the ECAC Championships

The William & Mary women's track & field team put together a complete team effort on Saturday at the ECAC Championships, setting seven personal-bests, two school records, and earning one All-East honor.  With six of the 20 events scored, the Tribe is tied for 16th overall with four points, while Towson leads the 24-team field with 33 points.

Complete Results

- In the pole vault, junior Taylor E. Jones (Fairfax Station, Va.) cleared a lifetime-best height of 3.75m (12-3.5), finishing fifth overall for her first career All-East award.  It's the first time a W&M vaulter has finished top-eight at the ECAC Championships (indoor or outdoor) since 2015, when Director of Operations Lizzie Hissey '15 was runner-up indoors and seventh outdoors.  Jones' performance improved her to sixth all-time at W&M indoors in the pole vault.  Senior Lauren Graves (Fredericksburg, Va.) also competed, but was unable to clear the opening bar.

- The Tribe's other finals event on the day was the 5,000m, where senior Liv Paxton (Rock Hill, S.C.) finished 10th overall, crossing the finish in 17:11.30.

- The rest of the day was filled with prelims.  Redshirt-junior Victoria Gersch (Mercer Island, Wash.) ran twice, and broke her own school records both times by more than a half-second combined.  First in the 400m dash, she ran 55.44 seconds, the fifth-fastest time in the prelims, and advanced after breaking her previous record by 0.37 seconds.  Later in the afternoon, Gersch came back in the 200m dash and ran the eighth-fastest time of prelims, 24.56 seconds, nearly a full quarter-second (0.23 to be exact) better than her previous best set last season.  She'll be racing Sunday to become the first All-East performer in school history in either event.

- In the 1,000m run, junior Taylor D. Jones (Virginia Beach, Va.) ran the second-fastest time of the day, 2:51.39, to advance to her first ECAC final.  Jones' time was a massive personal-best, and the third-fastest time in school history.  She now ranks second all-time among W&M athletes, behind only record-holder Amy Morris '99.

- The Tribe had two sprinters advance to the finals in the 500m dash, as redshirt-junior Susanna Maisto (Silver Spring, Md.) and senior Gabby Runge (Midlothian, Va.) both ran lifetime-bests.  Maisto, who was sixth in that event last year, won her heat in 1:14.13, the fifth-fastest time of the day.  That was also the seventh-fastest race ever at W&M, and moved Maisto up to fourth among Tribe athletes.  Runge was right behind her in 1:14.75, the seventh-best time in prelims, and the 14th-fastest performance in school history.  That rocketed Runge up the athletes list to sixth all-time at W&M.

- In the mile run, junior Lauren Finikiotis (Gibsonia, Pa.) ran another lifetime-best to advance as the seventh seed to tomorrow's finals.  She crossed the finish in 4:52.71, improving to ninth all-time at W&M.

- The final qualifier came in the 4x400m relay, where the team of Runge, Maisto, and freshmen Amaya Johnson (Sterling, Va.) and Carly Swierbut (Newtown, Conn.) combined to run 3:45.92.  That was both the third-fastest time of prelims, and the third-fastest race in school history.

- Junior Jadyn Currie (Virginia Beach, Va.) ran the prelims of the 60m hurdles, finishing in 9.17 seconds to finish 18th overall.

The ECAC Championships continue on Sunday, starting at 9:30 a.m.
